Dec 25, 2024 · They did an enema & fluids to hydrate & sent him home with Lactulose. He started that 3 days ago… had watery stool soon after getting home. A pretty big poo the next day. Started eating again maybe 48 hrs ago, (he eats soft food & been adding 1/2 tsp pumpkin per day.

Jan 6, 2014 · She's on cipriside 2 time daily, lactulose (0.8-1 ml 3 times daily), Sub q fluids when needed; and had an enema about 2 weeks ago (posted in the enema thread). The enema experience totally exhausted her. The constipation is coming back. Also exhausting for her. I'm giving up on the messy, ineffective lactulose and trying miralax (restoralax).

Sep 27, 2014 · He didn't vomit at all until this morning and he had been off lactulose for 36 hours at that point, but still had diarrhea. His vomit was only foamy bile and he hasn't vomited again since then. However, I just walked downstairs where his litterbox is & saw him in it and he was straining to poop so I gave him lactulose again.

Jul 4, 2018 · I haven't tried pumpkin, but Tommy has been on Lactulose and is on Miralax. If your cat responds to Miralax, you really should just avoid lactulose because they HATE the flavor. May 20, 2022 · Lactulose is effective is the pet is properly hydrated, because it works by recalling fluids from the system. If the issue is chronic, I would use something less irritant. In my case, I used psyllium seeds added to the wet food every day.

Feb 12, 2023 · I don't think Miralax is known to cause flatulence like lactulose can. Additional water intake is encouraged with both. Any chance that there has been some scar tissue that has formed at the old surgery sight that might be slowing things down and causing her stool to become hard as it slowly moves further down the digestive tract?

Jul 12, 2008 · When I finally took her to another vet we started treating her for constipation (the anal glands were not even a problem). We treated her with lactulose for a few months and then the lactulose stopped working. This vet sent me to a holistic vet that immediately wanted me to discontinue the lactulose and start my cat on PEG 3350 (Miralax).

Feb 18, 2008 · Unlike lactulose, which is a sticky syrup, MiraLAX comes as an odourless and tasteless powder which can be mixed with water or food. A common starting dose is 1/8 of a teaspoon per day, though if you don't see an improvement in your cat's constipation after three days, you can increase to 1/4 of a teaspoon if necessary.

Apr 10, 2013 · Sometimes cats will get constipated for different reasons. A change in diet or something in the diet, not enough water, stress or sometimes as a side effect of some medications. I have used Lactulose on my male cat, Max, for constipation, with good results. That said, I would also not recommend using both lactulose and miralax at the same time.
