Why are they Called Jazz Cats? | Drummerworld Forum
Feb 23, 2013 · Cat was just slang from back in the 30's etc, like Bud or mate would be today. There was a lot of slang that came out of the Jazz era.
...for the jazz cats ... - Drummerworld
Jun 13, 2012 · I GUESS I'm a jazz cat. Sort of. Kinda. I love it. I play it. It's a big part of my life. But in NY there's a real stigma about that stuff. There are people known as Jazz-nazis -- they only like jazz, only play jazz, don't acknowledge and look down at other forms of music. I hate that. It's so narrow, snobbish and ignorant.
Satin vs Laquer finish Gretsch Catalina Club - Drummerworld
Mar 9, 2024 · I had a Gretsch Cat Jazz set with an 18' bass and the add-on 10" tom -it was a pearl wrap not satin finish, sorry. I traded it for an RN2 set with 20" bass. I definitely like the sound of the 20 over the 18. IMO, the star of the Cat Jazz set was the 14" floor tom... it sounded really good. I sold the snare because I was never happy with it.
Jazz vs Rock drummer differences-80/20 drummer
Nov 16, 2020 · Jazz isn't really a single genre any more, so maybe "jazz drummer" implies a broader range of skills, including playing rock, than "rock drummer" does. What the best rock drummers do is a special thing, though, that it's difficult for mainly-jazz drummers to duplicate-- if they're not really serious about pop craft and simplicity.
Sabian XSR vs. Zildjian S Series | Drummerworld Forum
Jul 12, 2018 · Sure if you're recording regularly or a jazz cat then they're not going to be as good or complex as a set of Ks or Byzance or something, but they made a crash noise, they are loads better than B8s and they're affordable. I've got some mid range Istanbul Mehmets, and I don't think they're any better than the B12 S series or the XSRs
4 Piece Jazz kit | Drummerworld Forum
Oct 3, 2023 · I found a green lacquer Gretsch Cat Club from Sweetwater. Always wanted a good looking green finished kit. That's the one I bought for jazz after not being able to find a Tama Superstar 18" in finish I liked (I do have a Superstar kit with 20x16 kick for loud blues band). The Cat is a nice kit. Hardware not nearly as good as Tama.
is there ANYTHING bad about Gretsch Cat Jazz? - Drummerworld
Sep 12, 2008 · Hey everyone I currently own pearl forums, and i feel like im ready for a better kit. Ive been getting more into jazz style drumming, and my forums sound to rocky for the acoustic/indie sound im going for with my music. Ive heard nothing but good things about the Gretsch Catalina Jazz set...
Simon Phillips/Mike Portnoy: Who do you prefer and why?
Dec 28, 2024 · Simon Phillips, 67 years old, heavily influenced by Tony Williams and Billy Cobham. Started in big band. Jazz chops. Mike Portnoy, 57 years old, obvious influences are Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio and 80's thrash metal drummers. Not very jazzy.
Regal Tip! In operation again! | Page 4 | Drummerworld Forum
Jul 8, 2023 · Last I checked, the Jazz nylon tips are back. Those were quite popular for many drummers, so I'm quite happy for them. But I wonder how many who loved them are actually aware that they're in production again. I own two old pairs (though I don't play jazz) and I hardly used them because of the possibility of them never coming back. Now I can ...
cat jazz hardware question | Drummerworld Forum
Sep 4, 2009 · hi there, still not decided which kit to go for (cat jazz/new classic - see other thread) but was wondering about the hole in the bass drum on the cat jazz does anyone know what diameter the hole/mount is? i'm thinking i'd stick the 12" tom in a snare stand and mount a ride on the bass drum, but i don't know if the top part of a boom stand ...
