The North American FJ-2 and FJ-3 Fury are a series of swept-wing and carrier-capable fighters for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The FJ-2 resulted from an effort to navalize the North American F-86 Sabre operated by the United States Air Force.

The museum's Fury is an FJ-3, one of 538 built at North American's Columbus, Ohio plant. The FJ-3 featured an enlarged air inlet for its Wright engine. FJ-3s were delivered between September 1954 and August 1956.

This immaculately restored Fury is in the colors of VF-33 "Tarsiers" that flew from USS Intrepid. The squadron took part in NATO exercise Operation Strikeback from the carrier in 1957. The FJ-3 was similar to the FJ-2 but had an enlarged intake and the more powerful J65-W-4 engine.

Deliveries began in September 1954, and the FJ-3 joined the fleet in May 1955. An FJ-3 was the first fighter to land aboard the new supercarrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59) in 1956.
