Ion wind - Wikipedia
Ion wind, ionic wind, corona wind or electric wind is the airflow of charged particles induced by electrostatic forces linked to corona discharge arising at the tips of some sharp conductors (such as points or blades) subjected to high voltage relative to ground.
MIT engineers fly first-ever plane with no moving parts
Nov 21, 2018 · A new MIT plane is propelled via ionic wind. Batteries in the fuselage (tan compartment in front of plane) supply voltage to electrodes (blue/white horizontal lines) strung along the length of the plane, generating a wind of ions that propels the plane forward.
The ionic wind is the creation of movement of air, or other fluids, by means of a corona discharge. It was studied scientifically as long ago as 1899 by Chattock (Ref. 1), although its existence was known even before that.

Ion-propelled aircraft - Wikipedia
An ion-propelled aircraft or ionocraft is an aircraft that uses electrohydrodynamics (EHD) to provide lift or thrust in the air without requiring combustion or moving parts. Current designs do not produce sufficient thrust for crewed flight or useful loads.

MIT engineers fly first-ever plane with no moving parts
Nov 21, 2018 · Instead of propellers or turbines, the light aircraft is powered by an “ionic wind” — a silent but mighty flow of ions that is produced aboard the plane, and that generates enough thrust to propel the plane over a sustained, steady flight.
What is an ion wind plane? - How It Works
May 10, 2020 · Known by its working name, ‘Version Two’, it’s powered by electro aerodynamics, using powerful lithium-polymer batteries to generate a high voltage that ionises nitrogen in the atmosphere. This creates an ionic wind, where supercharged ions collide into neutral air molecules and charge their electrons to create a silent forward thrust.
