It's probably because backstory of Obanai, Sanemi and Gyomei aren't entirely revealed in the anime yet so some people who are anime-only may think Giyuu had it the worst.

Giyu was traumatized and watched a ton more worthy people die and he was depressed as shit. Him being a dick to everyone had nothing to do with other people. He was purposely doing it because he wanted to isolate himself.
