The island of Inis Mór (Inishmore) meaning the big island, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland. It is Well known internationally with over 50 different monuments of Christian, pre Christian and Celtic mythological heritage.

Inis Mór is the largest of the three Aran Islands (7,635 acres) and includes several ancient stone forts and churches among its antiquities. Most impressive of the stone forts is Dun Aengus.

Inis Mór is home to a wide range of historic and prehistoric monuments, from the dramatic Bronze Age cliff top fortification Dún Aonghasa to tiny Teampall Bheanáin, said to be the smallest church in the world.

The traditional Curach boat is still used by some on the islands (cf. Picture). Mackeral, Pollock, Rock fish and many other fish types as well as shellfish, seals and dolphins are all part of the aquatic life of the islands. There is a seal colony on the shore at Corrúch village, Inis Mór.

Ferries and Flights to Inis Mor from Galway & Doolin You can travel to Inis Mor by Ferry or air From either Galway or Doolin. You can find information on both Aran Ferries and Aer Arann. Ferry Travel to Inishmore, (Inis Mor) is by Passenger Ferry from Doolin in Co. Clare (Seasonal) or Rossaveal in Co. Galway (All Year).

You might occasionally see a Perawinged Falcon whom breed on the cliffs on Inis Meain, and you might see other types of bird of prey as well. It is an amazing place for wildlife in itself.
