The new Sd.Kfz.251 - HKp 602 / 603 remained in prototype form only. In 1941, Demag and Hanomag continued their development with HKp 605 and in 1942 with HKp 606. New vehicles featured simplified body, new Maybach HL 50 engine with 180hp and gearbox.

In truth, in 1942, the HKp 606 by Demag was supposed to replace all existing platform, but never entered production. The Sd Kfz 11 went on soldiering until the end of the war, often with transformations that were not planned, mostly using wood paneling.

Aug 3, 2023 · The Hkp 606 now has a friend, a long Hkp 605. Over the last couple of weeks I have been busy with getting my buses ready for the open weekend at the museum. I have also been hard at work on the little halftrack. The short 606 now has interior detail and this has been mirrored in the longer 605. Work has also got underway on the 607 weapons carrier.

By late 1942 a single short HKp 6.06 had been completed by Demag, sadly at the end of 1942 the project was terminated however much of the development work was used in the larger s.W.S halftrack which successfully entered production during 1943.

For example, HKp 603 is a heavy half-tracked vehicle whereas HKp 606 is a light model. The design however is clearly simplified compared to Sd.Kfz.251 and 250 but insufficiently made improvement to start production.
