Synonyms and Other Names: (croaker, bigeye croaker). Identification: Fischer et al. (1995b). Reported as Micropogon megalops. The genus for this fish has been changed to Micropogonias. Native Range: Marine; Gulf of California south to southern Mexico (Fischer et al. 1995b).

The Atlantic croaker is native to coastal waters in the western Atlantic Ocean. Its range extends from Massachusetts to Mexico and includes the northern half of the Caribbean Sea but possibly not the southern Gulf of Mexico or the Antilles.
