Feb 4, 2016 · The point of the gogoplata is when your opponent tries to square back up to defend the omoplata. If you could omoplata, you would, but when your opponent comes back around and your leg is trapped there's no reason not to go to the gogo from there, and there is no more risk from a gogo than from a triangle choke if you are doing it correctly.

Nov 28, 2012 · But seriously, the gogoplata is ok to have in your arsenal, but in my opinion, it's not something you should drill a lot and actively go for. I feel like it's too easy to defend. From the position you're most likely hitting it in (rubber guard), there are more effective techniques you can use. I'd suggest working on the omoplata.

Omoplata means shoulder blade. I don't think gogoplata means anything in Portuguese. I always assumed gogoplata was a word invented by Eddie Bravo or similar - mixing omoplata with gogo like a gogo dancer. Out of it's context, it resembles a move a stripper would do.
