Apr 4, 2022 · Gallium does not directly affect the aluminium oxide layer, for it to get to the aluminium underneath it needs to be damaged mechanically. The liquid gallium/aluminium alloy that forms after does not adhere to the aluminium oxide layer, and is what's responsible for disrupting the oxide layer. Also, an amalgam is an alloy with mercury, not gallium.

I have been running GalliumOS on an Acer 720 chromebook (set to boot seabios). Recently the 2242 memory device failed, so I restored to a new media a (few-year-old) image backup (created by booting to a rescue CD, then "dd if=/dev/sda of=/usb/somefile.dd", then restored onto the new media yesterday using the reverse dd command.

Oct 26, 2022 · So far, Gallium OS is the only Linux-based system that has worked on my old Chromebook out of the box, but I've heard it was discontinued and will no longer receive updates. What should I do? Right now, Gallium OS does seem like the best of both worlds, with the versatility of any other PC but software designed specifically for Chromebooks.

And gallium/graphite really are basically the same layout, with just a few differences that don't really impact the stats. Graphite is better for row stag as it was built around that and takes punctuation into account (like hitting shift with your pinky), and gallium was built for all around and is much better for ortho boards IMO.

Like going from dvorak/vanilla colemak to gallium will be a huge jump in comfort, but going from canary to gallium or sturdy isn't going to do much, if anything. Layout comfort is all subjective (like some people are fine with high pinky usage whereas others aren't. it's all preference)
