Aug 12, 2022 · As Toyota were not interested in participating in the FIA GT Championship, they created a scratch-built Le Mans special for the 1998 24 Hour race. The resultant TS020(also known as the GT One) broke with convention in that it was a collaboration between Toyota Team Europe and Dallara.

1998→1999 Toyota GT-One Road Car. In accordance with the FIA rules of the day, the GT-One had also to be developed as a legal road car. In fact the differences between the race and road versions were small: in road-going mode, the rear wing was set lower and the suspension ride height was raised.

Jun 13, 2014 · Known internally as the TS020, the new Toyota racer was more commonly referred to as the GT-One. The car was built around a carbon-fibre monocoque with an aluminium honeycomb core, which used the engine as a stressed member.

The GT-One would race once more, a single entry in the 1999 Le Mans Fuji 1000km. At the end of the race, the car had finished in 2nd place and only one lap behind the winning Nissan R391. The GT-One program did not continue into 2000 and would mark the end of Toyota's attempt at LeMans, which had started in 1985.
