He has been the bassist of hard rock band Guns N' Roses for twelve years, with whom he achieved worldwide success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. McKagan rejoined the band in 2016, following their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .

Guns N' Roses is an American hard rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1985, the group originally consisted of vocalist Axl Rose, lead guitarist Tracii Guns, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Ole Beich and drummer Rob Gardner.

In 1998 Rose, Reed, guitarists Paul Tobias and Robin Finck, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Josh Freese and multi-instrumentalist Chris Pitman started writing and recording new songs, intending to record multiple albums.

Tommy Stinson, born Thomas Eugene Stinson on October 6, 1966, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, served as the bassist for Guns N’ Roses from 1998 until 2014. He played a significant role in the recording of “Chinese Democracy” and was part of the ever-changing line-up during the album’s lengthy production process.
