Getah virus - Wikipedia
Getah virus is a mosquito-borne arbovirus in the Alphavirus genus. The virus was first isolated in Malaysia in 1955 from the Culex gelidus mosquito. It has been known to infect pigs but more commonly affects horses. [2] The virus was isolated near rubber plantations; the word Getah means rubber in Malay.
Getah Virus (Alphavirus): An Emerging, Spreading Zoonotic Virus
Getah virus (GETV) is a zoonotic virus transmitted by mosquitoes, belonging to the Togaviridae family, Alphavirus genus. It was first isolated from mosquitoes in Malaysia in 1955, being widespread in island countries in the South Pacific region.

Genomic surveillance and evolution of Getah virus - PubMed
Feb 4, 2025 · Getah virus (GETV), a member of the Alphaviruses, has spread widely and is expanding its host range worldwide, posing a serious threat to public health safety and the farming industry. However, genetic monitoring of GETV is inadequate, and its evolution and transmission remain unclear.
Development of a reverse genetics system for Getah virus and ...
Abstract Getah virus (GETV), a neglected and re-emerging mosquito-borne alphavirus, has become more serious and poses a potential threat to animal safety and public health. Given the lack of antivirals and vaccines against GETV, further development of tools, including reverse genetics techniques, is crucial for combating this pathogen.
Getah virus is a mosquito-borne pathogen that can cause a mild, self-limited illness in horses, and might also cause reproductive losses in pigs. This virus is widely distributed from Eurasia to Australasia, and antibodies have been found in many animal species.
Early Genomic Surveillance and Phylogeographic Analysis of Getah …
Getah virus (GETV) mainly causes disease in livestock and may pose an epidemic risk due to its expanding host range and the potential of long-distance dispersal through animal trade. Here, we used metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) to ...
