Jul 12, 2006 · re: fec 148 Sam Freeman (long associated with Black River & Western) bought 148 from US Sugar Co (Clewiston, Fla) in 1969 and had it moved to BR&W in New Jersey. 148 first operated in NJ in 1970; it ran in 1971 and early 72 at BR&W.

Mar 29, 2025 · The ex-FEC #148 was brought to Traverse City, Michigan in 1994. She was going to be restored in the engine shed in the remains of the Traverse City rail yard and be ready to pull a dinner train in 1995.

Apr 9, 2025 · Just a little speculation on my part here, but perhaps it was among the early high-level discussions between U.S. Sugar leadership & Scott that given the proximity with CSX, it is not a far leap to conclude some of the management may have had hopes or dreams of some movements on CSX at a future date.

Feb 16, 2006 · As an alternate to FEC 148, perhaps sister 4-6-2 # 113 might make a very good alternative for the Keys. For the following reasons, based on Stephen S. Syfrett's info on the ACL 1504 thread: 1. She is currently in pieces at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum thus quite a bit easier to move. 2. Apparently Gold Coast has no plans to restore her. 3.

4 days ago · BC&G/Q&E #4, CPR 972, RDG 2102, FEC 148, CPR 1238-1278-1286, NKP 759 (jes' passin' thru), probably some others I'm forgetting. The CNJ #4 steam wrecker now at Steamtown was based there; I have a shot of it on the ground in front of the coal dock in 1970.
