The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) is an intergovernmental organization located in Luxembourg City, which operates under public international law for all eurozone member states having ratified a special ESM intergovernmental treaty.

Aufgabe des ESM ist es, überschuldete Mitgliedstaaten der Eurozone durch (an Reformbedingungen geknüpfte) Kredite und Bürgschaften zu unterstützen, um deren Zahlungsfähigkeit zu sichern. Er ist damit Teil des Euro-Rettungsschirms und löste am 1. Juli 2013 die Europäische Finanzstabilisierungsfazilität (EFSF) weitgehend ab.
