The Volkswagen EA211 engine (EA = development order), also called modular gasoline engine kit, is a family of inline-three and inline-four petrol engines with variable valve timing developed by Volkswagen Group in 2011. [1]

The 1.5 TSI is the first engine of the renewed EA211 evo family introduced in 2016. It is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder direct injection, gasoline turbocharged engine with Miller-cycle combustion. It is assumed that the new 1.5-liter engine will replace the well known 1.4 TSI engine in Volkswagen Golf and other VW's vehicles since 2017.

The VW EA211evo (EA = development order) is the further development of the gasoline engine series EA211 of Volkswagen AG . The series includes engines with three and four cylinders and will be used from 2017 in various vehicles of the Volkswagen Group.

The VW EA211 family of 4-cylinder engines was first introduced in 2011 and has almost completely replaced the old line of EA111 power units from all markets. Usually they are divided into three series: atmospheric MPi, turbocharged TSI and new EVO turbo engines.

The EA211 engines are a completely new four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engines. Compared to its predecessor, the EA211 series is significantly more compact, with installation length 50 mm (2.0 in) shorter, thus offering more interior space. The installation position of the engines has also been optimised.
