Drepung Loseling Monastery was one of Tibet's largest monastic universities. Located in the hills on the northern outskirts of Lhasa, it was established in 1416 as an institute of higher Buddhist education by Khenpo Lekden, a direct disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), founder of the eclectic Geluk School.

Following the legacy of Drepung Loseling Monastery, India, and with the patronage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Drepung Loseling is dedicated to the study and preservation of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of wisdom and compassion.

Drepung Loseling Monastery in India. Drepung in Tibet was modeled after the great monasteries of Classical Buddhist India, namely, Nalanda and Vikramalashila, and was an institution dedicated to intense study of the traditional Buddhist arts and sciences.

In 1988-89 he led the first group of Drepung Loseling monks on their first Mystical Arts of Tibet tour in North America and accepted the donation of land in north Georgia that was to give rise to Drepung Loseling Monastery, Inc., in the US.

He launched the new Loseling website and created a monastery bio data of the monks. Drepung Loseling Monastery requested Rinpoche to travel to western and Asian countries to teach the Dharma and lead the cultural tours of the Mystical Arts of Tibet.

The monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery are available for private blessing ceremonies, home and business blessings, prayers, pujas and lama chopas while on their yearlong Mystical Arts of Tibet tour.

This regular public talk every Tuesday evening is our longest-standing program, dating back to Drepung Loseling Monastery, Inc.’s inception in 1991. It is still one of the best ways to get and stay involved in our activities while learning more about Buddhism.

Drepung Loseling Monastery (DLM) is located in the Tibetan Settlement in Mundgod, in the North Kanara district of Karnataka State, South India. The settlement has a population of 12,500 Tibetans and is comprised of nine camps and seven monasteries.
