Fluxivity for Newbies: how to select a test tape - Tapeheads.net
Jul 31, 2020 · “Standard” tapes today (like Capture 914/930 or RTM’s 468 tape) can use fluxivities that are 3db higher than the old Ampex standard – so 250nW/m would be the right fluxivity for these tapes. More advanced tape formulas, like RTM’s 900 and 911, can record at even higher flux levels: +6 for 911, +9 for 900.
Tape Recording Equalization Fundamentals - mrltapes.com
All of the tape recording standards now specify the recorded flux on the tape as a function of frequency. They specify that the flux is constant from low- to mid-frequencies, then falls at 6 dB/oct above a "transition" (-3 dB) corner frequency.

Tape operating level aka ‘reference fluxivity’: what’s it all about ...
Apr 25, 2019 · To the recording engineer, the studio and the record label, the choice of reference fluxivity, or tape operating level, is made to minimize tape hiss and maximize dynamic range and resolution, ultimately to achieve the highest level of realism in the recording.
Tape flux measurement is useful for standardizing program levels on magnetic tape records, and for measuring the performance of tapes and recording and reproducing heads.
Help to understand Flux Level. - Tapeheads.net
Jul 22, 2020 · First, the terminology. Operating Level = flux level in nW/m using a 1khz tone at 0vu. Output level = voltage output at 1khz at 0vu. Let's say you have a properly calibrated B77. When you record a 1khz tone at an input voltage of 775mv, your meters should read 0vu and you will be recording at a flux level of 250nW/m (approximately; actually ...
