Aug 6, 2015 · I installed a Cyrix 486DRx2 in my Compaq 386/20e. It also has an external cache controller and no issues running Windows 95, Windows NT, and Linux. However, most of the fancy features of the CPU won't be enabled (including cache) until a utility is run to set them.

Jun 15, 2015 · Got my hands on a Cyrix 386SX to 486 snap-on CPU upgrade. I installed the Cyrix CPU- its a snap on over the soldered 386sx and installed with a snap (excuse the pun). I restarted the computer and it booted fine, though I hadn't yet installed the Cyrix 486 cache SW.

Aug 4, 2016 · The DLC-40 created by Cyrix was intended to be a drop in upgrade CPU for 32 bit 386 class motherboards which in essence gave 386 PC users a 486 CPU upgrade. It essentially is a supped up 386 with 486 code inserted and 1kb of L1 cache added on the chip.
