One of the most iconic German insignia of the second world war were the Cufftitles or cuffbands of the Waffen-SS. These cuff titles were a indication of the division or regimental name that the wearer served with. The cuff titles or Ärmelstreifen were first introduced with the Allgemeine SS, SS-Verfügungstruppen and Totenkopfverbände.

Those cuffbands worn by units of the Luftwaffe between 1935 and1945 can be considered under three categories. Firstly, there are those which identified the wearer as having served in a particular formation and can be considered as commemorative pieces.

The cuff titles for this division exist in over a dozen variations, including different colors, weaving styles, letter styles, and widths. The initial title was the "Gothic" pattern, worn by troops of the original Wach Regiment. The Sutterlin and handwritten styles followed shortly thereafter.
