A few times the browser that the chat was on mysteriously closed during a chat. I discovered why on Friday when it did it again. I accidentally hit ctrl-w instead of shift-w, which closed the window the browser was in.

Feb 25, 2020 · I'm typing a large document on google drive and I use ctrl-shift-E to centre text quite often. However, the E and W key are right next to each other, so I end up closing the window usually several times a day. It's really frustrating. That's an easy one: Record your own macro to center a text, then assign it to Ctrl+Shift+W.

In the customize keyboard dialogue box, I can't find where File close (maybe once called Doc close) and the corresponding Ctrl+W shortcut is listed to disable it. Not in Home or File Tabs, as far as I can see. Just a quick removal of this shortcut would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sean

Feb 11, 2025 · I have searched all the Windows related registries and software and there is no solution to completely disable the Ctrl + W key combination. So far I have only found a way to use the keyboard mapping tool in PowerToys to disable the Ctrl + W shortcut on your keyboard, which can be easily triggered by mistake. Sep 16, 2023 · I am currently using Microsoft Edge. While browsing across tabs, I clicked the CTRL+W key to close the individual active tab. It is not working now. I have tried your solution by using the On-Screen Keyboard and clicking CTRL+W, but the result is the same. Other than the current keyboard, I've tried it with my other wireless keyboards.
