If one of these is unticked, and you ask death for a task, you won’t be able to change these settings until you finish the task. Which might be difficult at low level. When it comes to Croesus you can literally start at level 1.

An effort has been made to make Croesus an accessible activity despite being a group encounter. Even though you're not in combat, it feels more like a boss than a minigame.
