Jan 20, 2017 · The problem is that bike shops dont have the capacity to stock a complete inventory of bike types, sizes and tyre size. With the popularity of 650b in the mtb world, 26" has been abandoned, yet you cannot buy a 650b commuter tyre off the shelf. 650c has been abandoned as a wheel for small riders in most lineups.

Internally geared hub, disc brakes and flat or riser bar were all on my wish list for a new commuter bike. My short list lately consisted of the Giant Seek 0, the Felt X-City ½, the Scott SUB 10, the Swobo Baxter or Dixon, and the Trek Soho.

Built up a new commuter last year and it's overall great. I ride it to work 5 days a week, bike my son to school, grocery-get, etc. I built it up with slightly rising "flat" bars

Feb 1, 2010 · Not a lot of value (typical nice rigid frame mountain bike), but looks to be really sweet. One thing I really love about the older rigid frame mountain bikes is that you can turn them into just about anything: a touring bike, a commuter bike, a general recreation bike, etc.

Apr 7, 2025 · These keep the bike & rider clean, except the shoes, sometimes. Full fenders, that strap to the bike. The first and last ones don't require much commitment. The last ones don't stay in place great, and will migrate over time until they start to rub the tire. You can see the full, bolt-on fenders on my commuter bike here.
