Jun 26, 2012 · I've not tried engraving cedar but when cutting softwoods like spruce, hitting the surface with a coat or two of 1lb shellac seems to help. Slow the feedrate down to 50-60, or up the rpm. I don't do woods much but on some soft problem woods (like Balsa) I had good success with a 4 flute (very sharp) metalworking type endmill and rpm around 11000.
