The EMD SD50 is a 3,500- horsepower (2,610 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division. It was introduced in May 1981 as part of EMD's "50 Series"; production ceased in January 1986.

on 12-14-2008, SD50F’s 5400 and 5444 were retired. This brings to a close the SD50F saga on CN. However, with alot of the units going to scrap, a half o dozen or so are being sent to the UP to pay back Horsepower hours.

Feb 16, 2011 · The Electromotive Division SD50F is a Canadian variant of the SD50 built by EMD affiliate GMD in Ontario for Canadian National railway. The SD50F was a cowled version of an SD50, and used all the same parts, save for the actual locomotive body.

The CN SD50F fleet was built in 1985-87. They could all do 70 miles (113 kilometres) per hour, but were resticted to 65 miles (105 kilometres) per hour. They all had six wheel C-C trucks and dynamic brakes. They were all fully cowled with a Draper taper.
