Bratz is an American fashion doll and media franchise created by former Mattel employee Carter Bryant for MGA Entertainment, which debuted in 2001. [1] The four original 10-inch (25 cm) dolls were released on May 21, 2001 — Yasmin (Latina), Cloe (Caucasian), Jade (East Asian), and Sasha (African American).

Whilst driving home from his job at Old Navy, Bryant passed Kickapoo High School where he witnessed a group of "Bratty" teenage girls. Inspired by the bratty attitude he had observed, as well as advertisements he had seen related to hip hop fashion, he created the first four Bratz characters, Zoe, Hallidae, Lupe and Jade.
