This is a traditional Chinese flat drum, known as a bian gu, or gun he tao gu. It comes in either 43cm or 50cm diameter sizes. These come with a pair of drumsticks handmade from the trunk of a small tree, and a wooden stand.

We open with a Chinese bian gu, a Malay rebana, an Indian dhol and an Arabic darbuka, first in solo and then in a composition showcasing rhythms from each culture and also how well all the drums come together in harmony.

The Biangu has many different sizes according to its functions, generally, the diameter of the drumhead are 270mm, 330mm, 400mm, 460mm and 540mm and the height of the drum are usually 170mm, 200mm, 240mm, 300mm and 340mm. The drumhead is usually made of wood and leather; there are 2 to 4 metal rings at the waist of the drum.
