Oct 28, 2017 · So I had kind of the opposite question. I just got a squier bass and thinking of upgrading a couple things, pup, bridge. But I'm checking out the stock tuners I have on this and comparing them to replacements from Grover, Schaller, in the 50-70$ range. Seem they're all 20:1 machines. I counted the gears on my squier stock equip and I got 23.

Total beginner here- what E am I supposed to tune my bass to?
Feb 22, 2019 · One possible source of confusion is that bass is traditionally written an octave up. So if you look at music written in traditional notation for double bass or bass guitar, the open strings are written on the lines of the bass clef usually used for E2, A2, D3, and G3, but they actually sound an octave lower than that.

Feb 23, 2007 · The bass guitar performs a function similar to the upright. However, it is a guitar. Tuning on the upright bass over the years has varied as well as the number of strings on the instrument. Some of the early instruments had only two strings. IIRC, three strings was pretty normal and they commonly had as many as seven.

Sep 26, 2018 · Stu Hamm tunes 3 cents flat so setting the tuner to 439Hz will be minuscule flat but Stu claims that the bass and especially the two low strings (E and A) inherently have a slightly sharp attack and tuning this tiny amount flat makes the bass sit better in the mix and make the overall sound more "relaxed"..

Mar 29, 2005 · There are plenty of chords that work in the low register of the bass on a standard,4ths all the way across, tuning. Of course, if you really want to get into chords, including harmonics, then the way to go isn't to fix on one particular tuning at all but to experiment with one or more specific tunings per song (ala Michael Manring).
