Mar 21, 2021 · The M56 has the same diameter throttle body and MAF as the M54B30. The MAF is the same/compatible between the two engines/DMEs, however the throttle body is NOT the same. The M54 throttle body does not completely close, however the M56 throttle closes and seals completely. M54B25 uses a smaller diameter for both. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

Jan 7, 2017 · Some things that I have just learned. The M56 valve cover (lets call it an update) update has some down sides for certain vehicles. You have to get the coil packs for the M56 as well for the older production M54's. When you change the coil packs, the plugs are different which would require a coil harness.

Feb 18, 2018 · My non-SULEV currently suffers from P0444 and this is either a purge valve leak or a failed purge valve. Since BMW has to warranty this system for 15 years or 150K miles on SULEVs, they designed a superior purge valve than non-SULEVs got. The SULEVs also have the same intake manifold, DISA, and mass air flow sensor from the BMW 330i.

Jan 3, 2025 · 5,000 miles ago, I did a M56 valve cover swap onto my M54B30 and re-pinned the M56 coil harness per the 50sKid video. I'm just now getting the DTC's that must be from the one ground wire and resistor from the M54 coil harness that I didn't know (at the time) that I should retain and splice into the M56 coil harness.
