May 13, 2022 · The full sized Bic has a much bigger flint than the mini, which could be helpful for those sorts of methods. I saw this thread as a moment of enthusiasm for a particular piece of gear, rather than trying to start a debate about lighters, but we know how these things go.

Nov 9, 2015 · Bic lighters, never really been a fan of them, even when I was a smoker. The one thing they have going for them is they are cheap and available pretty much anywhere. Any day I would choose a Zippo over a Bic. As far as Bics being the pinnacle fire making, I say they are just one of many ways to start a fire.

Apr 24, 2015 · After looking at a full-sized Bic alongside a mini, I could see that the mini could possibly fit inside the larger lighter. I sawed about a 1" section off the bottom of the empty big lighter to make a protective cap and then removed some plastic baffles inside it. Once this was done the cap slid down easily over the mini.

Jan 1, 2024 · Bic’s are my main fire starting tool. Redundancy, convenience and availability is my reason for getting excited. Bic’s are pretty reliable for the price so between my bags and in my pocket there’s always at least four at hand on any given trip. And I’m hard pressed to not find Bic at any gas station in the states.

If I must do “tinder prep” and then “practice” until I learn how to use something, it isn’t happening. Jul 29, 2022 · The orange Clipper, is one of my favorite butane lighters for packs and kits. The Douglass Field lighter is my favorite overall Petrol lighter, it will hold fuel for at least a month which is an improvement over the Zippo. The little peanut lighter will hold fuels for a really long time because it seals completely.

May 1, 2016 · The Bic will need to be cut so the insides can be accessed for water tight tinder storage. A spent lighter is ideal. This project is a recycling enterprise which works because the ferro rods (aka flint) Bic uses are much longer than actually needed for the life of the fuel.
