BFI Southbank (from 1951 to 2007, known as the National Film Theatre) is the leading repertory cinema in the United Kingdom, specialising in seasons of classic, independent and non-English language films.

The London IMAX Theatre's giant 20 metre high by 26 metre wide screen (the largest in the UK) combined with a 14,000 watt digital surround sound system results in a very immersive experience - almost like being there in person.

Operated by the British Film Institute, the 485-seat BFI London IMAX Cinema is housed in an unusual circular building which is glazed on the exterior. It is located in the centre of a busy traffic round-a-bout at the southern end of Waterloo Bridge beside the River Thames, and access is gained by under the road passages.

Cinema screenings aren't the only things to enjoy at BFI Southbank. At the BFI Mediatheque you can take a seat, put on a headset and explore recordings from the BFI’s vast film archive. You can view over 95,000 titles from the BFI National Archive including everything from early feature films and documentaries, to classic TV shows and news reels.
