Actually, Ashina was already the name of the People and the land in that region and They were under subjugation by other clans like the takamine clan. Isshin simply rallied these people to reclaim said ashina land during the chaos of the sengoku and proclaimed the clan as the ashina clan after the land itself.

The "real Isshin Ashina" is found dead right after you have killed the divine dragon. Maybe he was somehow connected to the dragon and once the dragon died, he died aswell? There is some lore that ties the dragon to the land of ashina, just cant exactly remember where or what that was ...

Go down and you will fight a mini boss. Carry on down and drop to the right. This will lead you past the other headless mini boss and to the next bonfire.
