May 24, 2017 · Alva died like a death hound because she's one of the only sources of tavern clothes in the game, if you don't want to kill an innocent. After you grab her journal, she'll start running straight to Movarth's, and when I followed her in she aggroed to the vampires and managed to kill the 2 spiders and first thrall before getting killed.

I'm just finished the quest of Laid To Rest right now and I've managed to keep both Hroggar & Alva alive (even saw Alva at the Movarth's Lair but she helped me kill the vampires). But when I go inside Alva's house they are both still hostile to me.

You can actually spare Hroggar. You can sneak into Alva's house during the day when he's at work at the lumbermill. Sneak to the basement, kill Alva, take the journal, sneak all the way back out then run off to the Jarl. Even after I've killed Alva, with her journal in my inventory and knowing, I've gone to him at the lumbermill - no hostility.
