The company received a request from a small country (they decline to reveal exactly who) to modernize a stock of AKM rifles with adjustable stocks, pica tinny optics mounting, and new barrels among other features.

The AKB-15 is a Slovenian assault rifle developed in the mid-2010s from the Serbian Zastava M70. The firearm was first revealed in 2015, and entered small-scale production in mid-2018.

REX AKB-15 assault rifle is based on the Serbian (ex-Yugoslavian) Zastava M70 assault rifle, which, in turn, is a clone of the Soviet Kalashnikov AKM rifle. AKB-15 uses same receiver and internals (bolt group, trigger group, safety/selector) as its parent weapon.

Dec 14, 2015 · This is the prototype REX AKB15 made by AREX, a Slovenian gun and ammunition manufacturer based in Šentjernej. The base rifle is a Yugo M80 which is bolted to a forend/rail and a rear stock adapter. It includes a full length top rail, quad rail on the forend and a side folding stock that resembles an FN SCAR stock. Looks nifty.

The company seems to have kept the fundamental design of the Kalashnikov the same, not messing with any of the internals. However what they have done is greatly enhanced some of the furniture.
