The AIM-9H is most effective against unaware or occupied enemy aircraft from about 2.4 km or less (1.5 miles) from the rear or side aspects, able to tackle many opponents who are even attempting to evade the missile.

The AIM-9H was the first solid state Sidewinder, with the complete guidance package built with semiconductors. In redesigning the electronics, the G optical system was essentially retained, but the tracking rate was further increased, to complement the more powerful 120 lb.ft actuators.

Jun 27, 2022 · The 9J is a dog-fight missle, so while the aim9D/G/H all have better range, the aim 9J turns harder than all of them, and it starts turning right off the rail. The aim-9J smokes targets inside of 2km and turns hard even within cannon range. The naval missles simply don't compare to the aim-9J in close quarters engagement.
