Mar 23, 2023 · This timing chain issue was resolved in the later 2011-2012 B8 models. Outside of that, those 4.8 V8 engines are bulletproof as long as you keep up with oil changes. The components that surround the engine are known to fail though (like sensors, seals fuel pumps near 100k miles) but all of these are easy DIY fixes.

A B8.5 would definitely stretch my budget, although I could just save another couple of months because I want to make sure I have cash on hand for any immediate maintenance after purchase.
