The A-13 was a specification of British Cruiser tanks produced by the General Staff Directorate of Tank Design before and during the Second World War.

The Cruiser Tank Mk IV (A13 Mk II) was a British cruiser tank of the Second World War. It followed directly on from the Tank, Cruiser, Mk III (A13 Mk I). The first Mk IVs were Mk IIIs with extra armour fitted to the turret. Later Mk IVAs were built with the complete extra armour.

The development of the A13 can be traced back to 1930, with the development of the Christie tank and revolutionary suspension in the USA. British officers, however, only really became interested in the concept after seeing a Red Army large-scale exercise and maneuvers, featuring platoons of BTs.

The A13 Mk.II (Cruiser Mk.IV) had thicker armour, a revised sloped turret and was mass-produced until the end of 1940. They first saw action with the BEF\'s 1st armoured Division in May 1940. Many were lost during engagements with German armour, due to their lack of protection, and the rest were abandoned at Dunkirk.

The British cruiser tank series started in 1938 with the A9 and A10 cruiser tanks, followed by the A13, A13 Mark II, the A13 Mark III Covenanter in 1940 and the A15 Crusader which entered service in 1941. The Crusader was superseded by the A27 Cromwell in 1944.
