  1. Load data: 8 x 57 JRS vs. 8 x 57 JS?? - 24HOURCAMPFIRE

Aug 12, 2020 · I have the 8 x 57 JS and load data for that cartridge is readily available. I would inquire of folks (whether one is a gun-writer or not) if they knew whether it is safe for the rimmed version ( JRS) to be loaded to the pressure/velocity of the standard rimless 8mm Mauser loads featured in the typical load manual? Thanx, in advance, GWB

Apr 26, 2017 · But I know that the 8x57 JRS differs from the JR only in the bullet/bore diameter (.318" for the JR vs .323" for the JS). And it seems that dimensions of the 8x57 JS (8x57 Mauser) are very similar to those of the 8x57 JRS, excepting that the latter is a rimmed cartridge case.

  4. 338 FEDERAL vs 8x57 JS - 24HOURCAMPFIRE

May 9, 2009 · Well, I guess so but the shoulder is further forward on the 8x57 than the 7x57. You'd have to blow the shoulder forward, by fire forming, when using 7x57 brass to make 8x57 cases. 8x57 cases are plentiful and available so using 7x57 brass really shouldn't be needed.

  9. 8x57 for Elk - 24HOURCAMPFIRE

The 8X57 in a strong action will do just about everything the 30-06 will do with bullets of 170-200 comparing them to the 30 cals of 165 to 200, grains, and the 30-06 is just fine at 400. In fact, that's not even a challenge for it. The Germans used the 8X57 very successfully for a sniper's weapon in 2 World Wars.
