Nov 22, 2004 · Your 30-30 barrel is an excellent candidate for rechambering to 309 JDJ. In fact, my SSK 309 barrel was a T/C 30-30 barrel converted by SSK. The 309 is a great handgun cartridge. Brass is not difficult to form from NEW 444 cases if …
309 JDJ Load Data - Graybeard Outdoors
Aug 17, 2008 · Hey guys, I just purchased a 309 JDJ barrel from con10der. I know SSK has all the load data which I will be receiving but I was wondering if anyone has any pet loads for this caliber. It is a 14" hunter type barrel. Any input, favorite load, powder charge, scope for it or any info you want to...
TC Contender 309 JDJ Deer Slayer Pistol - Dan Wesson Forum
Feb 16, 2011 · The 309 JDJ is made by resizing a 444 Marlin case inside of a 308 Win sizer die and then fire forming the brass with a reduced load. This produces a sharp 40 degree shoulder. The 309 JDJ equals the 308 Winchester and is designed to be safe in the Contender.
309 JDJ vs. 358 JDJ vs. 375 JDJ - Graybeard Outdoors
Jan 29, 2007 · This one is as good as the 375 JDJ. shoots a little flatter and has a little more range. Bullets in the 180-250 range. I mainly like the Hornady 200 and the Nosler Part 250 or Speer GS 250. Bottomline, the 375 JDJ is the do everything cart. The 309 JDJ will do deer and elk but is on the light side for elk.
309 JDJ Brass Forming Question - Graybeard Outdoors
Sep 13, 2008 · I just purchased a 309 JDJ barrel. I am having problems forming the brass. I got the 308 sizing die like it said and lubed the 444 marlin cases up and put them through the die. It was so hard pushing up on these shells. I couldn't neck not even 1 case! In fact the case got stuck the 1st time and I had to take the die apart to get the shell!
30 cal barrel choices: 30 Herrett, 30-30 AI, 309 JDJ
Nov 26, 2022 · The .309 was the most accurate, but you're comparing an expense custom barrel to factory stuff with the other two. I lucked upon the .309 with dies and formed brass used, just barely, at a most reasonable price and immediately dreams of a handgun elk hunt started forming, but unfortunately never came about and while I fully enjoyed shooting it ...
JDJ Calibers - Graybeard Outdoors
Dec 7, 2016 · Traditional JDJ parent cases were .444 marlin and .225 Winchester. I see J.D. has some newer ones using the 30-06. I haven't graduated to the Encore yet, but I've exhausted the available options with the contender. Consider Bellm's chamberings I've found similar performance from Mike's designs as to JDJ's without the need for proprietary dies.
Anyone used the 6.5 and/or .309 JDJ? | Graybeard Outdoors
Aug 12, 2006 · If the .309 is borderline on elk, I'll probably get the 6.5, then later on look at a .375 JDJ barrel as well. DIdn't want to bug SSK with too many questions, as it'll be about 6 months before I am ready to order the barrel, but I want to get as much information as possible before I make my decision.

Best 300 yard Contender caliber? - Graybeard Outdoors
Apr 7, 2013 · I would still lean towards the 309 JDJ, since the Super Bower's are sadly extinct (too bad, I think a 24" 30 SB shooting 180's would be perfect). And I would lean to 165-180 gr bullets. Lighter bullets and you may as well just go 30-30 AI, because in that short of barrel the light bullets are wasted in the big cases.
