Oct 28, 2011 · Re: .308 case volume I can't see personally how measuring by using powder would be all that consistent unless you have a way of vibrating the case until the powder's fully settled. Stick powders, and Varget is a classic example, tend to vary widely in how they settle when poured in. A long drop tube would help, so would a vibrator.

Oct 4, 2009 · The trouble is, the firing pin pushes the case forward. The rifle headspace minus the cartridge shoulder space is how far forward the case gets pushed. The headspace on .308 Win chambers, per SAAMI, can be from 1.630" to 1.640". The shoulder space on .308 Win cartridges, per SAAMI, can be from 1.627" to 1.634".

Jun 20, 2009 · Re: .308 case bulging ..... ? You have a slightly large chamber. The resized or new brass is pushed against one side of the chamber by the ejector. When it goes bang it is off center. The bulge is away from the side that contacts the chamber wall.

Nov 12, 2008 · I'm in the process of uniforming some of the factory brass I have laying around and wanted to "uniform" 'em up. I have noticed that through all my sorting I have found that the most excessive difference (aside from case weight alone) is the difference in neck wall thickness. I have case difference varing from .012"-.021" neck wall dimentions.

A couple things you can do: Run as heavy a bullet your barrel will take. Seat your round fairly deep; dont chase the lands. Doing things like this and tweaking the load have gotten me consistent 1 minute loads.
