FOGO stands for ‘Food Organics, Garden Organics’. The 3-bin FOGO system–consisting of new 240L lime-green lidded bin (collected weekly) and a 120L red general waste bin (collected fortnightly)–commenced roll out in the Perth Metropolitan area in 2019.

The three-bin system includes a dedicated bin for garden organics that can be converted to mulch. This bin is in addition to the standard bins for recycling and general waste. The City of Cockburn has rolled out the three-bin system to residential properties over 400m2.

Recyclable material in your general waste bin is a waste of resources that could be recovered and turned into something else. Your general waste bin should have as little waste as possible in it. Each Year, Western Australians use more than 1.5 billion drink containers.

The $20 million Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO program is an initiative of the Government of Western Australia, delivered by the Waste Authority. The program supports local governments to provide better practice three‑bin kerbside collection systems, including a dedicated bin for food organics and garden organics (FOGO).
