Oct 10, 2012 · On a 64-bit processor you break into 2 64-bit words and perform 4 multiplications/summations. If a 64x64 multiply takes basically the time of a 32x32 multiply (because the circuit is so aggressively time optimized that it takes more area) you're now 4 times faster than before.

Some Graphics Cards (mainly high-end NVIDIA Quadro or AMD FirePro cards) use 256-bit or higher memory buses, and IIRC use 128-bit processors for some things. I can't find where I read it in the past, but the high-end (and high-cost) cards are insanely powerful.
