In 1948 at the National Convention (Boule’) Zeta Amicae was established as an auxiliary of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The name Amicae means Friends in Latin. The first charter was given in 1949 to Lambda Zeta Chapter of Houston, Texas.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University, Washington, D.C. The Klan was active during this period, and the Harlem Renaissance was acknowledged as the first important movement of Black artists and writers in the U.S.

The Zeta Amicae group was established as an official auxiliary of Zeta Phi Beta during the 1948 National Convention (Grand Boule). Lambda Zeta Chapter established the Zeta Amicae of Houston that same year, and has served as a co-sponsor of the group for more than 70 years.
