A BRIEF HISTORY OF WILMORE, KENTUCKY. Wilmore was established in 1876 by the Cincinnati Southern Railroad as a flag stop with the construction of the nearby High Bridge Railroad trestle on the Kentucky River. The bridge was the highest in the world in 1877, an engineering marvel of its time.

Wilmore is known regionally for its celebration of the Fourth of July and its Old Fashioned Musical Christmas. A very successful juried fall arts-and-crafts festival is presented every October. Each November, we honor our veterans with a parade through town, ending at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center.

The Wilmore Police Department was established in 1922 with the commission of it’s first Town Marshall to protect and serve the citizens of Wilmore. Today, the department consists of 9 full time and 3 part time sworn officers and an Administrative Assistant.
