Mar 15, 2011 · Attached is the pic of the water pump gaskets from the Fel Pro Timing cover gasket kit. The top gasket is the gasket that would go under the backing plate and onto the water pump. The bottom gasket is the one that would be affixed to the timing cover. The FelPro part numbers for each are as follows- 13257 and 35221.

Aug 14, 2010 · Agreed all your doing when using silicone on gaskets is creating more sealing surfaces as upposed to 2 sealing surfaces between the pump/gasket and the block/gasket you now have gasket/silicone/block and gasket/silicone/pump think about it the paper gasket supplied is plenty to seal it as for the thread sealer teflon tape works beautifully

Oct 2, 2014 · I just replaced my timing chain, timing cover and water pump a couple of weeks ago. I used Permatex silicone sealant made specifically for water pumps. I used the sealant on all of the connections through the timing cover on the block and to the water pump as well as both surfaces of the water pump cover and where it mounts to the timing cover.

Jul 21, 2011 · plate to block goes between water pump and timing cover- plate to pump is sandwiched by the water pump. When you pull the water pump off of the timing cover, look at the backside of the pump and you will see two bolts. pull those bolts backing plate of the pump will come off. This is where you would put the plate to pump gasket.

Oct 12, 2010 · The newer cover will go on your 289 but the water jackets are different. Compare the jackets on your timing chain cover to the ones on your water pump. May 21, 2008 · The pump you see on the pictures fit on this timing cover ... but I think it leaks because there is 2 "missing" bolts on the water pump . Look a the picture "timing cover gasket" , there is 2 arrow ... those holes are not accessible with my 87-93 water pump I'm sorry , it's a little bit hard to explain ...

May 20, 2005 · Make sure both block and WP surfaces are clean of old material. Don't use silicone on a fiber gasket, use a gasket sealer such as Permatex High Tack or similiar. Stick the gskets to the block, align the WP with the top bolts and carefully put it in place. Start all four bolts to make sure the gasket hasn't slipped.
