Over the past six years, under the leadership of Chairman Liu Zhenya and its first Council, GEIDCO has blazed new trails with painstaking efforts, intensified the dissemination of ideas and concepts, promoted international cooperation, and strengthened basic research.

On November 10, Mr. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of GEIDCO and Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC) attended the International Forum for Energy Transition 2020 and delivered a keynote speech.

Professor Liu Zhenya is a renowned expert in energy and electric power technologies and a leader in areas of ultra-high-voltage power grid and global energy interconnection. Professor Liu Zhenya was born in China in August 1952.

In his keynote address, Mr. Liu Zhenya remarked that, GEI Initiative, put forward by President Xi Jinping, is a Chinese solution that is built on the innovative practice in China's energy and power sectors and aims to promote sustainable development of humanity.

From April 15-21 (local time), Mr. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC) and Member of Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, paid visits to the United States and Canada.

Professor Liu Zhenya pointed out that clean development lies in the core of achieving sustainable development and addressing major challenges confronting the world today such as climate change, environmental pollution, resource scarcity, poverty and disease.

Earlier this year, Professor Liu Zhenya was elected as a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) during its annual meeting on February 21st, and an International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, at its AGM in London on September 17th.

Mr. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and Chairman of China Electricity Council (CEC), met Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg on November 15 at the Oslo City Hall in Norway.

Liu Zhenya pointed out that as China's development has long featured high carbon emission intensity and large total emissions, it's an arduous task to peak CO2 emissions in less than 10 years and then to achieve carbon neutrality in about 30 years.
