The Special Threat and Response Unit is comprised of two elements - the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and the Hostage Negotiators.

Florida SWAT Association is a non-profit organization that provides dynamic training at a low cost to any Active Law Enforcement and Military.

The team trains on a continuous basis for high-risk, complex, and excessively dangerous operations. The deployment of the SWAT team provides protection and safety for the public and law enforcement personnel while reducing the possibility of injury or death.

The SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Unit provides several significant benefits to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, enhancing its capabilities in handling high-risk situations and ensuring the safety of both law enforcement officers and the community.

Oct 31, 2024 · The Florida SWAT Association has awarded Corporal Tyler Palmer, Deputy Stefano Gargano, Deputy Corey LaBrecque, and Deputy Matthew Green with the prestigious Award of Valor for their exceptional courage and heroic actions during the August 2, 2024 ambush in Eustis, where their fellow team member, MD Bradley Link, tragically lost his life.

The team is a member of the Statewide Region 5 Regional Anti-Terrorism Task Force (RATTF) and stands ready with other law enforcement teams to respond to critical incidents and acts of terrorism throughout the State of Florida.
