Jun 10, 2007 · I've used the smaller fish, 3-4", whole, and step on them to get the juices flowing or live like you would use a bluegill. They compete with the catfish for food here and are aggressive, stealing all my baits. I've heard of other people using larger fillets soaked in Filipino/Thai femented fish sauce and they say it works well (for the catfish).

I was wondering, my wife bought a bottle of orental fish sauce once for a recipe she was cooking. I can't remember what the dish was she cooked but I remember how strong that bottle of fish sauce smelled!

The sooner you kill the fish and get it on ice the better it will taste also, just bleed it, kill it and ice it quickly. Fish this time of year in a live well will start deteriorating as soon as they hit that warm water, even while being alive.
