Oct 18, 2006 · I went to Zante and had a good birding experience. Around my hotel there were Red-Footed Falcons , Yellow-Legged Gulls , Serins , Bee-Eaters (you hear the call alot) and a lot of Swallows (mainly barn but a few red-rumped) and House Martins.

Southern Zakynthos (Zante) and the islands Strofades represent a very important passage and stop for many immigratory birds, the most common being the turtledoves (Streptopelia turtur). In the islands Strofades exists a colony of the Atremides (Calonectris diomedea).

The animals of Zakynthos are not limited to the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle; there are a large variety of other animals that can be found on and around the island. Monk seals are one of the most critically endangered marine mammals in the world today.

These birds are found in many countries and they bless Zante with their presence. They are often to be seen circling the Zakynthian mountains and forests - they are a species that likes to live and breed in woods but hunt over open land.
