In Giyu Tomioka's Story, a side narrative of Kimetsu no Yaiba, Yae is a young woman who joins Giyu Tomioka after her father, Matazo, becomes a demon. She is Matazo's daughter, a Matagi hunter, and she initially thought her father was killed by a bear. Yae's determination is reinforced following the demise of her dog, Taro.

Yae (八重, Yae?) is a young woman who joins Giyu Tomioka on his travels in Giyu Tomioka's Story after her father Matazo transforms into a demon. Yae's name contains the Kun reading of "eight" (八, ya?) and "division, important" (重, e?).

In the spin-off, Yae is portrayed as a young woman who encounters Giyu Tomioka after her father Matazo is transformed into a demon. This traumatic event leads her to join Giyu on his travels, marking the beginning of their shared journey.

He and the Insect Hashira meet Yae, the daughter of a slain hunter, who believes a bear killed her father, but the truth is harder to face. Kyojuro also receives his newest assignment and hopes completing it will prove he's worthy of the title Flame Hashira, which his father abandoned.
